Join UProjects for a 10 mile walk over the moors to The Wessenden Valley and Marsden Moor from the Diggle Hotel in Saddleworth
This local walk is developed in partnership and supported by Oldham Council`s Environmental Service and is featured in the Fit For Oldham project
Cost: £4.29
This lovely walk over moorland terrain follows the route of the iconic “Cake Race” fell race by our local Saddleworth Runners, with 1,700 foot of ascent.
Setting off from the Diggle Hotel the first mile is the continuous ascent of Boat Lane before reaching the moors. We will now continue along a flagged pathway to Brun clough reservoir before a scenic descent into the Wessenden Valley
From here we will follow a good track down to Marsden and a steep long descent of old stone steps at the side of the dam, a good spot for a rest here as we will then continue up a similar set of steps on the other side of the dam!
Eventually regaining higher ground and the reward of fantastic views of Marsden Moor we will continue until rejoining our out-going route down Boat Lane and refreshment back at the Diggle Hotel
